  1. IT WORKS!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!! *** HAPPY DANCE*** Well the master CD\ROM does anyway, I still don't have the burner though. Or any clue what I did, I just went to the device manager and tried to update the driver again, It still said the best one was installed but now it works. I would still like to know what BIOS are and how to use them, and how to get a boot disc so I can re-install the whole operating system and start over clean.
  2. O.K. one of the local computer shops made me a 98 disc but it's not bootable, it's just a copy of 98. he said I needed to make a boot disc first, how is that done, and what do I need. also can it be done from a computer that has XP Home on it? ( my sons ) since my drive doesn't work .
  3. "for the drives try goin to device manager and deleting the listings for the drives and then reboot. let window redect them. and see if windows has a driver for them already." Already tried this and it didn't find any new plug and play devices. "if not then insert driver cd disk for each drive. this usually will clear it up." If it can't find the CD drive how do i get the disc to work? I sincerely appreciate all the help I'm getting!! Please be patient ,I'm computer illiterate.
  4. O.K. Took the case off and removed the Ram sticks and put them back, now I'm back up to 128Mb but I still can't get the drives to work. Here's my new test: http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=VVDTMW0EULUSZ8N7
  5. Well, I've downloaded the driver for the CD\RW (lite-on) , but can't install it, I can't find one for the CD-ROM (It's a samsung) They've never heard of it! I would like to start with how to install drivers from the harddrive, instead of a disc. The computer also doesn't recognise the drive thats in there, lite-on isn't even listed all that's there is a mitsui ** something** That I've never even had. When I try to search for plug n play devices it finds nothing. but when I do the "pick it yourself" option and click on the CD DRIVE GUI it lists the Lite-on CD\RW and says the
  6. Just tested again and found out that I've also lost 64 Mb of ram!! http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=S9BTMW0EULUSRYN7
  7. Got last problem fixed and caused another one! I should really stick to cars. Here are my current test results: http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=S9BTMW0EULUSRYN7 In addition to loosing both CD drives I've also lost 64Mb of RAM!! (I have 128 installed) Good thing I got the kids new computers for Christmas, Looks like this one's going to be educational.
  8. I uninstalled ZA, but when the comp. re-started this message came up: "A Windows REG. or file SYSTEM.INI device file needed to run windows or a Windows application is missing." now how do I get that back?? I also got the other firewall down loaded - pop-up killer didn't work- I also re-installed windows IE and the file is still gone. I'm back to work as well, so longer between posts. Thanks Again Mike
