More rogue AV tricks... - http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00001535.html November 10, 2008 - "We came across a rogue today called Antivirus Professional 2008 that uses GeoIP Lookup as part of its scare tactics. This site uses Flash and script to create the effect of an online scan, that then attempts to push an installer at the visitor. The NoScript extension* for Mozilla Firefox is an excellent way to mitigate against this kind of garbage... The "antivirus online scanner" site now uses the visitor's IP address to customize the so-called threat..." 10. Which instant messenger were you on at that time?Reason, when you see a message like that come through does your I.M. have an option to block this person without having any interaction?, or an option to only receive IM's from people on your friends list? Still yet, if one of your friends machine is infected it can send out from their name. Been so long since I've used a instant messenger program, just thinking that by now they all have, or should have this feature. OK read this again and see it's yahoo... If I remember correct, yahoo has security settings to block.
  11. http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?...mp;#entry662155 FYI... MS e-mail spoofs with malware - http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archive/2008...th-malware.aspx October 13, 2008 - "... While malicious e-mails posing as Microsoft security notifications with attached malware aren't new (we've seen this problem for several years) this particular one is a bit different in that it claims to be signed by our own Steve Lipner and has what appears to be a PGP signature block attached to it. While those are clever attempts to increase the credibility of the mail, I can tell you categorically that this is not a legitimate e-mail: it is a piece of malicious spam and the attachment is malware. Specifically, it contains Backdoor:Win32/Haxdoor... we never, ever, ever send attachments with our security notification e-mails. And, as a matter of company policy, Microsoft will never send you an executable attachment. If you get an e-mail that claims to be a security notification with an attachment, delete it. It is always a spoof..." courtesy apluswebmaster
