Vista OS is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832116493 180 if you dont have a copy at hand- colleges usually have them for free or $20.

Monitor can run from 100$ to 200$. If you have a decent monitor i suggest to keep it.

Prebuilts are OK... but it'll be about the same cost as a built one as a custom built one IMO.

  2. Id post a picture of what our bandwidth monitor has for a line graph, basically picture it maxxing out the connection then at 8am when I uninstalled it, it dropped to next to nothing.

    :hammer: HP you phail.

Sad thing is, regular users aren't aware of it. It's not in the directions to do so- least i dont think it is... I've never looked. ha!

  3. Here at work we have noticed heavy bandwidth with the computers that use the cd autoinstall deal- rather than just installing only the driver for the printer. Well the installation has a program that checks on the printer... For example for a given day 4-6 GB... yes GB of traffic is produced!!!

As normal users do not have bandwidth monitors on their home networks, I thought it would be a good idea to point this out. Install the driver only and all will be well.

  4. Just tired it myself, with FF3 AND IE 7... I even get a recommendations of like things to KTM once i have that in... then down to a specific model when i put in 450.

    insta results at that.

  5. i have 5 yr old toaster, should i upgrade?

lol i mean seriously, who cares

its some guys opinion to a pcworld mag article...big whoop, he likes it, he recommends it...why hate? better yet, why is this discussed? i'm not understanding how some guy from godknowswhere got a rise out of anyone cause he publically wrote his opinion on an OS. kinda funny though, makes me want to make pointless threads just to eat popcorn and read the reactions, beats tv handsdown.

ZOMG 5yr old toaster... you should man. Technology of toasters have improved 10 fold in the last 5 years....

  6. I have 3 licenses of Office 2007... Pro, Enterprise, and Ultimate. Cost... Free,15$,60$. OpenOffice doesn't support the new formats unless they save it as 2k3. The new formats are actually really nice... it compresses the file automatically among other things.

  7. Im going to bet its overheating.

Evga Percision is like Ntune, but much more simple to use and will give you in game temp, fps, and clock. Not to mention it doesnt crash- hasnt yet, and it holds settings without a billion things you'd have to go through to hold.

  8. Go with 2003 then download the office 2007 compatibility pack from Microsoft.. then you can open and save .aaax formats of 2007.

Or go 2007 then you can do both and have updates, SP1 for O2k7 did good. If you use outlook tho, remember to open another program first, like word or excel before you go into setup outlook on a NEW profile. A security update fubars on the intials input section when you first start, and hangs outlook, and never completes the outlook profile.

I use 2007 at home and work and I like it...but you have to get used to it. Just like any new release.

  9. I have weeded Vista down and it runs like xp. The issue I have is the UAC, while good... it crosses the line of over secure. You can't get round fast enough due to the... are you sure... really? Are you sure?

XP is NOT outdated. Have you not read how much uproar there is to keep it since it is superior?

I like both, i dont see anything wrong with XP other than the fact 64bit support is weak and its ability to correctly display dx10. Once you weed out some crap on vista and if your smart enough to avoid malicious files, turn off UAC and you'll be pretty nicely set.

  10. SP2 for XP is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Im going to say that there are some underlying issues with your computer. Firstly, what is the make model and specs of your computer. Just like an SP, sometimes there are bugs. But, its been like 5 years since SP2 came out... all the bugs are fixed and XP is the greatest thing from Microsoft since 3.11, so Im going to have to side with Brandon, its the computer not the SP thats causing the issue.

  11. Same thing goes for Verizon and their cell phones. They lock out functionality from users.

That's the businesses choice... IF you don't want to buy the product because of that... don't. Like Brandon said, there are other and better products out there.

People don't like vista, how do they fight it... don't develop for it.

  12. I disagree.. I love my Creavtive Zen. I dont have a use for a sound card so i can't say much for that. Internal suits me fine and one less thing to screw up my computer.

I don't see this as anything to raise a red flag about. The guy was modding their drivers, violated end-user agreement. He should be fined. He's lucky they sent him TWO warnings. IMO, id have sent him summons.
