  1. Hmm. I don't know what to do. I guess it may depend on what type of computer you guys have. If its a really good computer like a Dell, I'm sure you can leave it on at all times. If its an old computer, shutting it down every time you're done using it may hurt the hard drives. I'm just going to leave my computer on all day and shut it off at night. Besides, I'll be giving this computer to my mom as soon as I get a job with great pay so I can buy a laptop for myself. Laptops are the thing of the future.
  2. Thanks for the links. I guess its just a personal preference. I don't really see any problems with leaving it on all day and shutting it off at night. I always shut mine down at night. I can see if a person doesn't have a great power source, they might shut it down when not in use.
  3. Just recently, I've been shutting off my computer when I'm done using it. I turn it back on when I want to and I shut it off when I'm finished. I turn it on and off three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening) and I've heard some things that it could damage a computer if you do that. I'm doing it because I thought it might save some energy and the electric bill, but I'm starting to think otherwise. My dad's computer at his office, he just logs off, turn off the monitor and that's it. His workplace does system backups every morning so that's why he leaves it on all the time. I know some friends of mine leave theirs on all day and shut it off at night and some shut it off when its not in use. I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with doing. I'm not sure. Do you think its okay to leave the computer on all day and shut it off at night or is it best to shut it off when you're not using it? Thanks in advance.
  4. I really like it. Looks very sharp! With this new edition, I noticed a little icon close to the clock for Spybot-SD Resident. It's pretty efficient. And when I turn on my computer, it makes this sound that its checking where I put a floppy disk in.
  5. Yeah, I think I'm going to hang on to my older version of Ad-Aware for a while. I still think there are some bugs that need to be fixed. I hope that's all right.
  6. Is anyone else still having problems updating their definitions?
  7. There's a problem with the latest version of ZoneAlarm. I'm not the only one that's having a hard time with the latest version so I went back and installed the 6.1 version. I'll probably buy ZA Pro one of these days, but I'm not going to buy it if there's a problem with the latest version.
  8. Yellow or Orange. I must be color blind. lol.
  9. I still have it installed and does your free version have yellow bars on the left-hand side and the top? I have ZoneAlarm Version 6.1.744.001
  10. I'm not sure if I downloaded ZoneAlarm Free Edition or a 15 day trial of ZoneAlarm. How can you tell the difference?
  11. Thanks, Juliet. I think I'm better off just to stick with what I have and buy ZA Pro. I wouldn't want to download a product then if a problem comes up, who can I contact?
  12. Okay. How would you rate Sygate? Do you think its better than ZA?
  13. First off, I really like Avast. It uses very little resources on my computer and I've seen a huge difference as far as my computer is concerned. I've had ZoneAlarm Free Edition for a little over a week now and I'm having problems with it. I downloaded a previous version but it seems like more and more people are experiencing. I'm not sure if I were to buy ZoneAlarm Pro, I'd facing the same problems, and I'm not going to spend my money on something I would constantly have to ask for support. Would there happen to be an Avast Firewall? I'm curious to see if that would conflict my Avast Anti-Virus program. Thanks!
  14. Avast is a pretty good anti-virus to download for free. For a spyware program, Spybot is the answer.
  15. I've always thought Microsoft and Windows Update is legit. If it wasn't, then you'd see Microsoft shut it down for sure. Millions of people use Update to get its security updates and I really haven't had any problems with my computer. It's been said over and over, if you use an Anti-Virus and other means like Spybot or Ad-Aware, your computer should be clean. What other places can you get updates for your computer other than Microsoft?
  16. I written down Sygate a long time ago as a possible firewall that I will use, but I crossed that out since I read something about it not being free anymore. From my point of view, Zone Alarm looks to be more user-friendly than Sygate. I'm trying to find a firewall that uses very little to no resources.
  17. Not to go off-topic, but I'm also thinking about getting a different AntiVirus and Firewall for my computer, since my subscription with Norton AntiVirus will end in a couple of weeks. I will use Avast, but what do you guys recommend for a free firewall that doesn't use many or any resources? Thank you!
  18. I haven't even messed with the advanced mode of Spybot so I'd just leave it alone.
  19. I use Internet Explorer and I consider myself a good web surfer.
  20. I actually have 9812 bad products blocked, rgsmile.
  21. I don't think its a bad idea unless you're satisfied with Norton. I've had Norton ever since I bought my new computer in 2003 and its time for a change. My subscription ends in June and then I'll switch over to a different AV.
  22. Alright. Just making sure simply because my a2 updates for me and I guess I didn't have my computer on yesterday when it updated.
  23. Wait..so the WMF exploit is detected on a2 or is this just another update? I just want a clarification. Thanks!
