  1. And who has the highest or how many points was the score?
  2. Thanks to all who have replied. I should have mentioned that this PC is a stand alone unit. By that I mean that it does not have access to any sort of network, internet or otherwise. It is a Pentium 133 with 64MB of RAM (EDO I think) and the MoBo has a lot of ISA slots . Currently it is running WinNT Server but I would like to have some sort of Linux permanently replace it. I will read through the links you guys posted in a few minutes. Thanks again
  3. Hi all, Is there a way to install Linux off of a Live CD onto such an ancient computer whose BIOS, by design, only allows me to boot off of floppy or hard disk drive? The comp does have an optical drive though. Basically I need a Live floppy if there were such a thing for Linux . I know of MenuetOS but it is not based on Linux. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks
  4. Thankyou mrdithers. Got them and immunized as well
  5. Hulk, remember, this is PCpitstop not macpitstop. ???? Wait, mac are now pc's
  6. If you are using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and the latest definitions on Spybot S&D 1.4 you should have 9093 items blocked on the immunization feature.
  7. Try pasting C:\WINDOWS\system32 onto your Windows Explorer.
  8. That's what I did after the Windows update method messed up my computer. I removed SP2 and then installed the redistributable version of it and all was good after that.
  9. Currently I don't have any pets and don't plan to. However, I dumped the POTS a couple of years ago and only use a mobile phone, is having a landline phone a must? Thankyou Porthos for your information sharing.
  10. I'm currently planning on installing a home security system. I am looking at ADT, Brinks and Monitronics. Which do you recommend? Thanks for your replies.
  11. The one right smack in the center, the white one, is a PCI slot.
  12. Here's my old Celeron 1.4 at stock. http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=THST9WHL60US70RU
  13. Dough,My XPSR 450 will accept PC133 ram as long as it is "low density". My Dell's mobo originally only supported up to 384 MB of ram (3 X 128 and is my current setup). After flashing its BIOS to the latest release for it, according to the BIOS release notes, one of the benefits of the upgrade was that it would allow me to populate my mobo with up to 768 MB (3 X 256) hence I would really like to get my hands on three 256MB low density PC100 or PC133 ram sticks. With all this said, I am not willing to invest $50 plus on this computer due to its age.
  14. Funny, I want/need 3 256 PC100 sticks but dont want to pay for them since it's ancient ram . I have a 256 PC133 stick in my Gateway comp. When I tried it on my Dell XPSR 450 comp it was not recognized. I believe because it is high density ram and my Dell didn't want anything to do with it, it would not boot.
  15. Ask someone if they hear these noises coming from your PC. It could just be a figment of your imagination. Please post a PCPitstop scan for us.
  16. Limewire does not have any additional programs bundled with it either.
  17. This one could very well be the granddaddy of all "free money" e-mail tracking hoaxes. Examples of it date back as far as 1999, and while it continues to circulate and morph, it is no more true now than it was then. http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/msaol.html
  18. When SP2 came out I did an install through the regular Windows update method. This method gave me a lot of problems everytime my computer would boot up. I had to uninstall or do a system restore, I don't quite remember which one, in order to revert back to SP1. What I ended up doing was downloading the whole SP2 enchilada, the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers (see link below). I burned this big enchilada onto a CD and have updated 5 computers with this method without any negative effects. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
  19. Solaris, as your avatar depicts, you like to live dangerously.
  20. I've gone to the Windows update site several times today and it still does not have any patches available for me. I'll try again later this evening. Maybe I'm being queued for them.
