  1. Running programs conflicting, a driver problem, or malware. D/L, update, & run free MalwareBytes. http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...4-10804572.html
  2. You might PM Andrew S, if he has Vista, how he did it. pagedefrag was made for XP, do the following at your own risk. http://forum.sysinternals.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=10755
  3. Stormy said disable everything in your list except Bullguard. Find them & change them to manual with Start>Run services.msc You can change them back if needed. http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm Another possibility Decrapifier http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5223.html
  4. Caintry is a gteat adviser. Super & MBAM are manual scanners doing nothing untill you update an run them. They are thought to be better than AdAware now. Blaster & Guard do not cause any problems in the background. One more active antyspyware might be good Spybot (Teatimer & Immunize)?????
  5. Could it be this? http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?showtopic=164735
  6. A first time poster with that attitude (or smarts) probably will not be here long. Insulting the long time posters is not a good way to join.
  7. There was also AVG Anti-Rootkit Free & Rootkit Hook Analyzer, if you can tell the good from anything bad.
  8. "Dont do what I think your gonna do." Too late for me, I thought I should remove Net Framework 1.1 & 2.0, then install 3.0 That is totally wrong. In add/remove programs 1.1 & 2.0 are listed but the size is blank. Now they will not install, nor will 3.0 I have not noticed any problems, but I don't do all of the things others do.
  9. One test is memtest 86 http://www.download.com/Memtest86/3000-2086_4-10524193.html Is this of any interest, page defrag http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb897426.aspx
  10. mme or someone will have to answer that. Two more common ones, I have used. ATF cleaner CCleaner
  11. Post your first MalwareBytes log to be studied. PC is slow, can not update, & MBAM found problems may indicate that you might need to post a HJT log in the HJT subforum Including the MBAM log
  12. http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm 0X00000077 is near the middle of the list. It seems if the HD checks OK, you should run a memory test????
  13. I don't know about the log, it might help. A link to a full Pitstop test might help, the yellow TechExpress at the top.
  14. Stop the auto restart & see if you get a error code to post. Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced>startup & recovery settings uncheck auto restart OK.
  15. AS for proof for a geeksquad refund I would think these posts would be enough. Logging on in front of them also proves it is you. Also geeksquad has a complaint 800 number, google search. I hope all is well. Juliet had the key suggestion it seems.
  16. If they are just cookies ATF cleaner should remove them. The colors & border might be a driver or video card problem, I really do not know.
  17. Is your PC running normal now? Do your programs still detect a problem? Kaspersky online scanner would be another way to check. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner ATF cleaner removes junk files
  18. You paid $199 & it failed, any guarantees? Pitstop is the place to be, if necessary the HJT advisers are wizards. Juliet is a adviser, she should be able to shame the geeksquad.
  19. From F-Secure As a result of this change a victim's computer will contact the newly assigned DNS server to resolve names of different webservers. And some of the resolved names will not point to legitimate websites - they will point to fake websites that look like real ones, but are created to steal sensitive information (like credit card numbers, logins and passwords). I read using the mentioned programs in Safe Mode is the way to get it.
  20. I probably am not understanding, "cpu is never at 0 % idle" But Task Manager>Processes>System Idle, 95% is a good thing.
  21. Is the electrical voltage different in the UK? Need a new PSU to match where you are now?
  22. Try running MalwareBytes & SUPERAntispyware, updated would be good. Burn to a CD on a good PC if necessary, then install. Welcome to Pitstop
  23. Seems to be the same as XP OEM, the disk can be reinstalled on the same original PC (motherboard) or get MS permission if too many parts are changed. It can not be reused on a different PC.
