  1. Hi Juliet. Further investigations have revealed that the problem is a fauylty hard drive so, in view of the fact that I've had this PC for quite a while now I think a new PC is the best option. Thanks for your help. Poleyhob
  2. Hi, and thanks Juliet. I have to go to work now so I will follow your instructions tomorrow. Thanks for your help. Poleyhob

  4. Hi. Over the past few days my PC has slowed to a crawl. It can take anything up to 5 minutes for it to boot windows and even then, when you get to the desktop it is very slow and can take up to a minute or so to obey a command from the mouse. Anyone got any idea whats going on here and what I need to do to get my PC running properly again? 6. My duaghter uses firefox as her browser but also uses MSN meseenger to contact this person. I am concerned that this person may be, or intends to put our daughter in a position of danger. I need to break the connection between them. What is the best way to do this? I don't really want to ban her from using this site as she has a lot of genuine friends on there but I really do need to stop her having any contact with this particular user. Any ideas or tips gratefully received Thanks Poleyhob
  7. Erm........... soory for being a bit thick about this but can someone explain exactly how I can stop this person communicating with my daughter. I am not very PC literate so step by step would be good. She is using firefox as her browser by the way. P
  8. Hi everyone. I have posted in the past about problems with my daughter who is only 14 and her PC but I hope someone can help. The story so far: my daughter regularly uses a US site called scrabulous.com as she is a great Scrabble player. She has also lately started to use private chat rooms there and, because we are constantly monitering our children's PC's, we have become aware that our daughter is repeatedly in contact with one particular user of the site who is based in the US. Checks have proved that this user, who claims to be a 15 year old boy, may in fact be much older than that.
  9. Hi Juliet. I have done as you suggested above and something must have worked because the internet connection is back up to normal speed. Also, there didn't seem to be all that much difference in speed whether I had AVG on or off. Either way, everything seems to be back to normal now. Thank you very much for all your help. Poleyhob

  14. Thanks for your help Juliet. It's gonna take me some time to work through all your instruction as I can only use the PC for limited amounts of time due to a problem with my vision so it may take me a couple of days or so to reply with all the info you require. Poleyhob
