  1. I don't understand this at all.I've done a restore from an earlier date before, also on my PC, with no repercussions. Also tried inserting the recovery disk so it would boot off of that to no avail.
  2. Joe,I never have clicked on that. Never because it has not been necessary. Do you have a possible resolution for me?
  3. Hope all had a great weekend;I could use some suggestions as to a resolution to my problem as mentioned above. Thank you in advance.
  4. This laptop has Vista Home Basic OS. My mouse would act as if it was set to select when hovering even though I found it was not set to that. This had just started very recently and I wanted to get beyond that. I have done restores in the past likr when I could not get around the fact I could not recover the hiberntion option upon accidentally deleting it. No updates were done just proir to this restore attempt.
  5. After the restore the machine froze at the beginning of the startup and that is where I am at. Is this something I can get help with here to recover or am I relegated to taking it in to get resolved?
  6. We will transfer data from the old to new. Not sure if the 40g drive serves a purpose anymore.Yes, it sounds confusing but we'll get through it sometime
  7. it is a Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKB 500GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM
  8. Mouse -Thanx for the help. Just received my drive from NewEgg in the mail today and planning on installing it in the near future. But cannot find the free disk utility that you can get from the drive manufacture's web site.
  9. So, just search for 3.5 when I get into the harddrive section, then? Also, somewhere it was mentioned about using the old drive as a slave...Need educating on this concept, pls
  10. Appears to be the 3 1/2 incher
  11. MT-M 8187-F4U is listed on front of the tower
  12. Searching for 'IDE harddrives' turns up tons of hd's! What way is the best to find, other than the size, the hard drives I should be choosing from. Thanx in advanace!
  13. About 5 years ago the V.A. gave me a IBM Think Center and the hard drive was only 40G Noticed recently it was completely full and then I got rid of some programs and now have about 5G free space. How much space will be saved if I choose 'Compress drive to save space'? For some reason, maybe someone told me not to choose that option and it is still unchecked. Also, back in the day, I was a mainframe operator and the company had partitions on the drive. Now, I've never done that and don't know how to do it, either. Is this a good thing to do upon purchasing a new hd? And, how would I go about doing that?
  14. I have free AVG and AVAST and was told it might not be a good idea to have more than one A/V running together. Is that true?? Which one do you all suggest? Do I also need other protection?? Any free ones suggested???
