  1. Some of those updates either fix bugs or solve some compatible issues or bring performance improvements. You could click the updates and read the description on any updates you install.
  2. Wireless could be turned off Press the FN+F2 keys to toggle wireless on and off
  3. Which OS are you using in computer that will be receiving the VPN connection(s)?
  4. If a dll file is missing, corrupted or an program that uses the dll file cannot be loaded or has been removed then you might get this type of error. -You could use a registry cleaner like CCLeaner, which more than often will find and fix the dll entry and eliminate other error. -You could delete the registry entry that points to the missing dll file. Save your Windows Registry File, since messing with it is an extremely delicate process. The programs and files that load at start up are found on this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows> CurrentVersion> RUN NOTE: Perform this steps at your own risk 1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. Type regedit 4. Navigate to this registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows> CurrentVersion> RUN 5. In the right section find the entry that refers to the missing dll 6. Delete the entry and Restart.
  5. It's fine. My XP score was more than 200 higher compare to 7. You should worry if it was you card 3D score.
  6. Beside those I use these handy shortcuts Windows + (number) = Starts the program pinned on Windows 7 Taskbar (counting from left to right). Windows + right arrow (→) + Enter = Shutdown Windows + right arrow +right arrow + R = Restart Windows + L = Lock the computer (when I need to walk away fast and leave system locked). Windows + Pause [break] = Open System Properties. Windows + M = Minimize all windows (handy if boss walks in on you playing games, online shopping, etc ).
  7. It has 64 heads that can achieve 160,000 read/write and 500 MB/sec transfer rate simultaneously and uses only 4W power http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/06/19/hrd_dataslide/
  8. There are nice hi-gain antennas that could cover an area as the one you described. But those consumer routers might not be able to provide the power the antenna needs. You could try a business-class router for outdoor environments like the ZyXEL’s 3000 series. It can be configure with dual-radio and a variety of external antenna solutions depending on the coverage area. They are waterproof, dust-sealed and they come in UV-resistant casing. A router like the ZyXEL NWA3550 with a nice antenna could cover your entire area. Remember that antenna direction and positioning is very important, since you need to cover the area horizontal and vertically.
  9. It is possible, could you run and post a PCPitstop test? Here is how-to http://forums.pcpitstop.com/html/helpfiles/techexphelp.htm
  10. Uninstall or remove your CD/DVD burner from the Device Manager and restart your system. 11. Head to opensuse.org and download openSuse 11. No need to wait for delivery.
  12. If you consult an experienced medical doctor you will be advice to remove the tick with rounded tweezers by grabbing the tick as close as possible to the skin surface, and then pulling it with slow steady pressure away from the skin. Making sure not to crush or squeeze the body of the tick, because fluid forced out of the tick may contain infectious agents. Like I said before, applying fingernail polish, rubbing alcohol, or a hot match head to the tick, will not help detaching the tick but it may induce the tick to salivate or regurgitate into the wound, as a result infectious agents have a greater chance to get into your body. Most ticks do not carry diseases, and usually tick bites do not cause serious health problems but the method of removing the tick might increase the chances of getting infection and diseases.
  13. Contrary to some traditional methods and believes, after the tick is removed; washing the area of the bite with soap and water or an antiseptic is the recommended approach. Applying fingernail polish, rubbing alcohol, etc. may help transmitting more infectious agents.
  14. While removing the tick, the tick's head might have separated from its body and left parts of its mouth in your skin. Ticks head can be so small that it will be hard to see them and this makes it hard to tell if you have removed the tick's head.
  15. Have you tried configuring the Power Options in the Control Panel? Screen-savers and Antivirus program could prevent a PC from going into standby or hibernate modes. The power options could have been saved in the BIOS and after removing the battery it could have been deleted or reset.
  16. I was wondering if there was anything wrong with the card. But then I ran a 3DMark test yesterday and it went up more than 4,000 compared with the previous setting. We should have a 3D test, which could be combined with the 2D test for more accurate results. Thanks for the input
  17. I get 421 points if I use a Radeon X1800XT (Core 625MHz / Mem 750MHz ). I get only 71 poits with a GeForce 8800GT (Core 660MHz / Mem 950MHz). Isn't a GeForce 8800GT faster? http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=4D7NSW18JBGSE3KG
  18. I still cannot believe that a crappy power button have made me work so hard. Thanks duanester & woodro Shorted with a jumper it worked, and has been running for several hours now. Now, I just need to get a new power button
  19. It cannot be a memory virus since I changed the motherboard and memory. It doesn't have anything to do with Windows. I ran the system with only a stick of memory, the CPU, the keyboard and mouse (No HHD, no FDD, no CDROM) I was able to go as far as the BIOS and then it shutdown then restarted by itself ...it kept restarting and shutting down until I power the PSU off. Next I will try another CPU...am not giving up just yet
  20. It's my nephew's PC and he was having the shutdown-restart issue. I have the same issue even though I changed the mobo, memory, PSU & heatsink. I thought it was either the old intel mobo or the 250W PSU that came with the system. I tested the new Antec PSU in another system and it works just fine. It shuts down even with the hard drive disconected. The only thing I have not change is the case and the CPU Could a CPU cause this?
  21. I am puzzled by this one guys. I was trying to fix a Gateway 5200S PC that was shutting down and starting by itself. Sometimes I could get to the system to go to Windows or just to the BIOS. Sometimes I could not get into the BIOS I thought it was the PSU, so I changed but the issue remained. I have tried pretty much everything I could think of. Changed the PSU…no change Changed the mobo, heatsink and memory…no change Now, I could get to the BIOS but I am not able to install Windows again, since still it shuts-down and restarts by itself. System specs BIOSTAR P4M890-M7 Mobo 1 GB CORSAIR DDR II Intel P4 2.93 MHz (have not change it) Antec 480W PSU WD 80GB HDD (Have not change it) Any thoughts guys?
  22. To mark a folder as private you need to right-click on it and select Sharing and Security. On the Sharing tab click the checkbox that says Make This Folder Private. If the folder is owned by another user or it was created by the operating system this option will be grayed out. Also, by default, on Windows XP Home you can only make files and folders under My Documents "private". If none of the above apply to you and you want to change the grayed out then follow these steps: Windows XP Professional Edition -Open My Computer, select Folder Options from the Tools menu and click the View tab. -In the Advanced Settings section, uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box. -Click OK. -Right-click the folder that was grayed out, and choose Properties. -Click the Security tab, select Add, and type in Administrators, click OK. -Select the Administrators group that you just added. -Put a checkmark on Full Control (Allow) in Permissions check box. -Click OK. Windows XP Home Edition -Start Windows in Safe Mode (otherwise you won't see the Security tab). -Follow steps above
  23. If you want to prevent someone from accessing your files then: -Right-click the folder that you want to make private -Select Properties and click the Sharing tab and check Make this folder private box. -Click Apply . If you have not set a password before, a box will pop up asking if you want to create a password. This is neccessary if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on. Type in a password then confirm it. Click Create Password button then close the Password window. Click OK in the Properties dialog box. From that time and on anyone else using or having access to your computer won't be able to access that folder and its content without knowing your password. You could even make your folders invisible even though the files themselves are inaccessible without the password. To hide them, use the hidden feature on Windows XP or even better, compress a folder inside another compressed folder and password-protect the top folder. Other users can open the top compressed folder, but not the subfolder containing the files. There are many freeware and paying software to acomplish that task. Hide Files and Folders v2.8 (free version available here), is a software that lets you set a password on any folder. You could use this program to password protect folders on both NTFS and FAT32 volumes (folders on flash drives, network drives, and hard drive). You won't have to create a user account with a password like on Windows.
  24. System Restore does not restore personal data. System Restore monitors only specific system and application file types like .exe, .dll etc. If you have lose your data, you could try PC INSPECTOR File Recovery, (from this link) which is free.
