  1. Well, after looking through Grisoft's site, I have figured out why AVG 8 won't install correctly on my W2K Pro machine. Seems that AVG 8 won't install correctly if the disk drive is not formatted NTFS. My disk is setup for fat32 file system. According to Grisoft's site, an update to correct this problem will come out in mid June. So, if you're having trouble that the update database is disabled, and the auto updating don't work, along with a couple registry handles missing.......then check to see what format your disk is using. This is probably your problem. :geezer:

  2. Since you say you can access it from another computer I would say it's being blocked by something. Windows firewall maybe? Try turning off the firewall to test it. Try adding the site to your "trusted" web sites in Internet Explorer. Could also try adding the site to the "host" file. I don't use Vista so I can't tell you how to go about doing this. Just some thoughts on things to check.

  3. Follow Joe's advice about unchecking "Display a notification about every script error" and also put a check into the 2 boxes above that...."disable script debugging (other) and "disable script debugging (Internet Explorer). Adding thoes 2 checks will keep that from happening.

  4. Publisher files can't be opened without Microsoft Publisher...that is I don't know of anything that will open them. You can download a trial version of Publisher and maybe save the file to a different format.....or there are online file converters that you send the file to that converts it to a different format for you...just give them your e-mail address and a link will be e-mailed to you to get the converted file. Another option would be to ask the sender to send it to you in a different format.....perhaps PDF. Good luck.

    Bruce....you beat me!

  5. The document viewer should be on the setup disk for your printer. Probably in the setup folder on the cd. You can reinstall the printer software to corrrect the problem or you can download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility here and run it to correct the problem.

  6. I guess this is a little late but the font size can be changed.....but it also affects all Windows ....not just Internet Explorer.

Right click desktop, properties, advanced button, click on the word "normal" just under the word "active". At the very bottom of the box you will see the font used and the default size 8. Change the 8 to a larger number...the larger the number..the larger the text size. Ok and apply. You now have larger text. You can also change the color and the text style too....Have fun!

  7. You can try this...

open Windows Explorer, tools, folder options, file types tab, scroll down to "tif" and highlight it. Toward the bottom of the box will say "opens with" .... click the "change" button and select the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". Click OK. Now your "tif" files should open with the Windows and Fax viewer. Also do the same for "tiff" files too. That should take care of the problem

  8. Do you have Microsoft Word already on your system? If you do..MS Works don't play well with Word...especially Word 2002. I think there is a patch available from Microsoft for the Works/Word problem. I'll see if I can find it.

    Found it. linky

This may not be your problem...but I do know Word and Works don't play well together...at least not on 2 of my systems.

  9. First off let me say..I don't have Vista. I understand that it "throttles" the cpu back to about 50% by default. If that's the case, then look into the power management...

Open the Control Panel, then open System and Maintenance.

Go to Power Options, pick High performance.

Click on Change plan settings underneath it, then click Change advanced power settings.

Go to your Processor power management section and change both minimum and maximum processor states to 100%.

    Hit OK

    See if that helps.
