  1. Never could keep up with them holidays Volt! Seems to me like I tryed the Easter Egg thing on Win98 and it didn't work... Just thought of it. Maybe the trick of getting the button back will work.
  2. There used to be an old trick for Win95 for removing the start button. An Easter Egg thing! Don't know if this will work or not but give it a try............ http://www.eggheaven2000.com/detailed/130.html
  3. Just wondering if this kind of thing happens to you guys....I have a W2K and a Win98se machine networked together and on a company network. I run AVG on both computers. About a month or so ago, my Win98 machine was suddenly attacked with the klez worm. AVG caught it and removed it. Just to be safe, I did an online scan and found some files that were still on there. I had to manually delete them. Now, about 2 or 3 times a week, I get this variation of the klez virus and go through the steps of removing it. Why does this thing keep attacking this one computer? It hasn't migrated to my W2K machine yet...knock on wood. I am not the only one at our company that it happens to either. We both have the same thing happen to us. Funny thing is, I don't go on the net or do any surfing with the Win98 machine but I let it do the automatic updates to AVG. What do you guys think? Is there something I could try to avoid getting this thing several times a week? By the way, we have ran virus scanners on all our computers and nothing was found on any of the others, just mine and another co-worker.
  4. Jammer, I'm going to go out on a limb here but I had a very simular thing to happen to me once while trying to install some software. In my case, it didn't work right so I uninstalled it and reinstalled to no avail. It would always revert back to my first attempt with the settings it installed first. The only way I was able to get it installed correctly was to find and comfirm the folder that the program created and resided in and write down it's exact name. Then I rebooted to dos prompt only. I went to C: and typed deltree (name of folder) and enter. After I did this, I was able to reinstall the software correctly with it's new settings. If you decide to try this, Please Make sure you have the right folder. Once you delete it this way, there is no getting it back so if you have the wrong folder, well........... Say the folder is called HPScanner and it is on drive C. Boot to a dos prompt and type..... deltree c:\hpscanner and press enter. It will ask....... delete directory "hpscanner" and all its subdirectories? [yn] Here you have a chance to say YES or NO. make your selection and press enter. Then it will say.......... deleting c:\hpscanner and then return with the dos prompt. Now you can ctrl, alt, delete, (three finger salute) to reboot your computer. The folder and all its contents are now gone. You should be able to start over with a fresh install of the software.
  5. I wouldn't delete them yet, just rename them and try it again.
  6. Nascarfan, Norton Ghost will work for your "backup" if you want to call it a backup. What it does is basically takes a snapshot of your whole system the way it is at the time , including all installed programs, files, and all the settings of your system. Sort of like the system restore feature on some systems. When you use it to restore a drive, it puts everything back on the way it was before. You don't have to reinstall programs, fiddle with settings, or have to seperate files into folders. That's the beauty of the drive imaging software. That's why you save so much time using it.
  7. I hear you, I have Norton Ghost 2000 but unfortunatly, it doesn't support my old CDRW drive. I haven't checked lately to see if there is an update for it though. I need to do the backup thing at home but I just do my necessary files to CD every now and then.
  8. I agree with doofus, drive imaging software is the best way to go. You don't have to worry about reinstalling anything. Saves a ton of time in case of hard drive failure.
  9. Jammer, I would uninstall the scanner and start over. I think you may need to update the comctl32.dll file. Reg32.dll is an HP scanner driver. Here is a link to explain the "why" you are asking about... http://www.createwindow.com/wininfo/comctl32.htm

Turn off "auto complete" to keep from storing the url addresses of typed urls. Right click Internet Explorer icon, select properties, click on the "content tab",click the Auto complete button, uncheck the three listings and click ok.
  11. Hi Volt! AVG has put this thing in the virus vault so I guess I'll just delete it. As I have done some more reading about it I have decided I can live without it. It appears to be some kind of script to open multiple windows until your system freezes. I don't need this on my web pages I make nor would I want to send it to anyone. Wonder how it got in the program to start with. Was it intentionally put in there for some reason?
  12. I don't know if this is the right thread to put this in but I noticed yesterday after an AVG automatic update, the scan afterwards found "Six Buttons From Hell" "virus". It is located in the 1stpage 2000\ ISCRIPTS\BUTTONS\Six buttons from hell.izs. This is not a virus but it behaves like one. Has anybody else seen this since their last update?
  13. I agree, Eudora is the way to go. I have used the paid version for several years.
  14. Joe, you may need a FTP program to do that if they don't provide you with any tools to use. My site is the first one I've ever done so I don't use anything else. Maybe someone that has built websites before could help you out more than I can. You might post a question about building a site and get all kinds of help. You may already have everything on your computer to use.
  15. Joe, I'm not sure, I know mine (earthlink) has a simple "click and build" design but I would feel like they would have a tool to use if they provide you with free space, or at least recommend a tool to use. Front Page is supposed to be pretty good, (I don't use it) but there are some free ones out there for the asking! HTMLGOODIES.COM is a good place for getting your various codes too.
  16. Does your ISP not provide you with some free web space? A lot of them do. Check with them and see.
  17. OK, thanks guys, I knew it wasn't just me because I checked some of my other sites and they all load quick. I still think it has something to do with the SQL attack so like I said, I'll watch it for a few days. I'll be at work tomorrow so I'll get to check it on our fiber optic connection. Everything loads super fast on that one! Can't wait till I get hooked up on fiber optic at home. I've signed up but they haven't gotten to our area yet to install it. It'll cost me about half of what I'm paying for DSL!
  18. Does anybody else have problems with this board loading? I've only been on here for about 20 minutes but it loads pages soooo slow! I haven't checked it at work on our fiber optic connection, but I have DSL here and it doesn't load as fast as the old board! NOT COMPLAINING HERE!!! Just thought I would see if anyone else is having the same problem. I know the net has been slow since the SQL attack so I'm going to give it a few more days and see what happens and if it speeds up. I just timed the preview loading....27 seconds to show up after I clicked on the "preview" button.
