  1. Used NAV and I have to say yup its great. But I switched to Mcafee Virus scan "Enterprise 7.1" Which doesn't cause as many problems. But I may switch back to NAV but yeah I agree all the junk features. And it seems kinda slow. But now that I have NPF without NAV but with mcafee it adds up to the same PF file usage but better CPU load.

Awesome since your doing that you should probably add the following which is associated with norton internet security and mcafee virus scan: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared ... \symlcsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe - A symantec rediretor proxy kinda thing. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Fr ... \FrameworkService.exe a part of the mcafee updater C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Fr ... \UpdaterUI.exe mcafee updater C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\Mcshield.exe Mcafee on-access scan or auto protect C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\SHSTAT.EXE C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\VsTskMgr.exe mcafee in the taskbar or something like that C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe - This is part of the ATI Catalyst Radeon Driver. Those were found when I scanned my machine as no information. I am running norton internet security 2004 professional and mcafee virus scan 7.1 Enterprise. Thought it would be convienient for you to add as many as you can but you dont have to if you dont want to thanks dave. Test
  5. Why because P2P sucks, its direct from one person to the other so you have no idea what you are getting. There are a lot of vunlerabilities present when you run a P2P network, I mean why don't you just open a telnet server? Haha, If you are going to use any type of it use a better one like WinMx its spyware free, easy on resources and bit for the advanced users but its not hard to figure out. Kazaa is a horrible horrible program. With all my experiences with it I hated it everytime.
  6. That just makes me so angry that some of the biggest and greatest companies that have a good reputation go to Gator. Oh well... They will go down with Gator. Each day they stay with Gator their reputation gets worse. Just like Gator's.
  7. Yeah, you would need to get a program to do that. A security settings placer. Because I looked everywhere for information to lock internet options with windows xp but its quite hard. I am not even sure if its possible. If it is and you have step by step directions because otherwise I can find nothing. Then let me know thanks.
  8. Umm the Update CD is completely free I ordered the one up to February 2004 of updates and it was 0.00 . And it was delivered to my door by Purolater . Its a really good cd. All services packs, updates its a good cd. It also has the Windows 2000 service packs all 4, so you dont have to download them all .. yeesh. Its a pretty good idea especially for me with dialup.
  9. Ahhh grrr! I just switched from NIS 2004 pro today to .. Mcafee Viruscan Enterprise 7.1 and ZoneAlarm Pro 5.0. My computer is so much faster but I just feel so insecure with these two. I like mcafee for a virus scan actually but Zonealarm is just not really. I have no idea what to choose. My NIS was just too much of a resource hog and I got sick of it. And ZA pro gets a lot of bad feedback and there is so many firewalls to choose from I really need help to choose. I do not like ZA, and NIS is too slow. I want the speed of ZA and the Security of NIS. Is there a firewall out there like that?
  10. Hmm,AVG.. I do not know why everyone likes it. It is not that great of a program at all. It does not have the technology to remove certain viruses that are commonly spread now. Ones that integrate themselves into other files like .ini . Its scanning methods are very bypassable by trojans and viruses take a look at the exploits found for it. AVG is free, and it may seem that you never ever get a virus once you get AVG. Do you know why? Because AVG does not even know they are there. I tested this, one of my friends up the road has AVG free version and their computer is all hijacked they have 100s of viruses just by looking at it. I ran a AVG scan and it found not one infected file. Yes it is updated. So I downloaded Stinger it cleaned up a lot,ad-aware,spybot and some online scans. The online scans found many, many viruses. AVG does not work. It is a terribly written program. You may think its free and great. But you should still be careful. Run a lot of online scans. Have a nice day, Logan
  11. Norton Antivirus 2004 Professional. No infection yet.
  12. Hmm, Some people do not have the right idea of firewalls. Yes, they use definitions. But I do not quite understand myself exactly but I have NIS 2004 pro. And I think that when the firewall "knows". What the attack is it will specify the name. But when it does not, it blocks it anyway and calls it an intrusion attempts. A firewall scans ANY inbound and outbound traffic and should pop up a message if you want to allow it to access the internet from your computer. And then when there is stuff coming in. Well I can not explain that part. It is really hard to put it into words. But lets say that no, not anyone can access your computer just because the definitions are there. There is a limited amount of types of attacks. And a good firewall should recognize them all. Well basically, it will block anything trying to access a different port than your web ports like 80, mail ports, and other always used things. Or it will show a warning. And the reason why I can not explain. That is with a firewall. Now with a router firewall it blocks mostly all or any incoming information or connections "from" the internet. For example msn file transfer..unless you set a rule on the router. So basically it doesnt matter what attack or trojan or worm or virus it will blocked automatically. But it allows ANY connections FROM your computer. So say you had a trojan on your computer, it would be able to connect to the internet in a click of a finger. BUT no hacker would be able to connect to the trojan to get into your computer because of the automatic blocking of incoming connections. Now that is with a good router. The router I have I can set rules to it by connecting to it from my computer. It stealths and blocks all ports. It allows most content and basically what I just said. But I think you would be good using just a router firewall and a really good antivirus. Then you should be pretty safe. Now that is just my theory so if anyone can explain it better than me then please do so.

Mr.Omega, What is the point of this post? Not to be rude or offend you in anyway, but why do you post something as useless and pointless as this? Especially in user to user help? Couldn't this at least of been taken to General or not at all? Have a nice day, Logan
  14. That is very easyily fixable. I had the same problem when I first installed NIS 2004. Go >>Here<<. Download the one at the top of the list released on January 4 2004. Make sure liveupdate is not running. Run that file it will uninstall liveupdate and reinstall the new one. Then run liveupdate and try and update with the new version. Run it multiple times after you finish the first update. Until you reach there are no longer any left. If you get an error message at first running the update. Restart and try again. It should work. Steps in point form: -Download new live up from >>Here<< -Close any open or running programs including browsers. -Run the update for liveupdate -Restart -Check for updates with the new version -Then run multiple times after the first time you run it to make sure you have them all Good luck
  15. Hello, I use NIS 2004 pro... and well.. am regretting it. I reformatted last night. My computer was so fast afterwards even once I got it all set up. Then.. I put norton on. And its quite choppy. I think I will start having to disable the firewall sometimes because it slows the internet so much. But Zonealarm pro and sygate pro I am scared to try I guess. If I knew that they were great I would reformat again and put them on. Just to get norton completely off.
