  1. Well thanks again for taking a stab at it
  2. I have not, I didn't guess it would be that easy, I will definitely check that out as an option but is there any other suggestions?
  3. Hi people, I have found myself in major bump in the world. I am currently working with a business that has thousands of archived, and active word perfect files. Due to a new system they are moving to, all the documents they work on are required to be Microsoft Word or (.doc) files. It would be great to just tell them to re type everything but the problem is it consumes to much time. There are plenty of free file converters but they don't were very effectively, they copy the text, but forget any formatting. So my question is: Does anyone know of a Paid or Free solution that will ***effectively*** convert files from Word Perfect to Microsoft Word copying all (almost all as its impossible to do a perfect job) formating and text from each file. Thanks in advance for anyone that offers a suggestion or anything.. If I need to clarify anything just post back, Thanks agian, Shadowfox
  4. I set mine to turn the screen off after 10 minutes. I never turn the HD's off never standby or hibernate. I leave mine running running for about 12-15 hours a day. The longer anything runs, the more wear and tear on parts. So its bad for any device to run longer than it is essencial. Hope this helps.
  5. Make sure all the computers are part of the same Ip Address Range In example, most routers use 192.168.0.XXX or 192.168.1.XXX (xxx's are the indivdual IP addresses) If some computers are 192.168.1.xxx and the others 192.168.0.xxx it might cause a problem. Also Double check the firewall settings on both computers
  6. Thanks, I removed most of the security features and installed AVG Anti Virus and Spyware. I'm just in the final stages of tweaking this computer out. Ill post a test soon, it doesn't seem to run as well as it should
  7. I'm looking at somones computer and they have AOL Security Center. I don't quite understand how AOL and all that works, Its AOL for Broadband and I was wondering if it was possible to remove Security Center without Loosing their AOL functionality
  8. I'm backing it up as i type this. I don't know why this is happening everything was going great till this happened. I'm going to try a ghost restore point afterwards but its like 98 days old so I'll have to restore someof the stuff im backing up now. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
  9. Correction. The folder structure is the same, as it has always been. moms account for some reason is located in C:\ Documents and Settings\user\ Maybe something gott currupted or something, chk disk doesn't work either. When I tried to copy ntuser.dat file it says that there was a cyclic redudancy check error. I wouldnt' suspect the hardrive to be dieing because the computer seems to run fine, it just seems like a software issue.
  10. Ok my mom has a laptop, realitively new dell laptop. Windows XP Home. We booted the computer up tonight and now it says that it cannot log into the windows account because of a corrupt file, or profile error. (summarization). So the computer continues to the desktop but its a new desktop not the one that she usually uses. Her files are now located under Documents and settings/user/moms documents/ and so on... not the traditional, Documents and settings/mom/moms documents. Its like every time it creates her a temporary desktop. Actually Message Message 1 Gives 30 seconds and continues (it is a dialog box) "Windows Cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator." Message 2 Gives 30 seconds and continues (dialog box also) "Windows Cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile" System Restore doesn't work in this situation, it has Norton Ghost on it, but it also doesn't have sufficient enough recovery points. Any help is graciously appreciated.
  11. hmm. I don't have any off hand. Some people use to recamend an app called Jetaudio. But i don't know wha tthe current thing is now.
  12. your not the only one having trouble with WMP. So far i recall 2 other topics with completely different wmp problems.
  13. If you need a program to assist you with sizes and picture files i would suggest this program http://www.irfanview.com/ IrfanView Good Luck.
  14. Its really as said earlier too early to say what the problem might be. Supply us with a test and let us know what your system is up to.
  15. Also some things to try, If it lets you , change the view>Details, because sometimes if it is on film strip of thumbnails it will read a currupt video/picture, causing a crash to the system.
